The Best Refreshment in the Heat

Passion Fruit Juice is a very popular drink (especially in tropical areas) due to its refreshing taste and the nutritive qualities. The fruit itself originates from South America and the biggest producers of this fruit come from this area. However, it is also cultivated in California, Australia, Ecuador, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa and India. Nowdays, it can be found on supermarket shelves all over the world.

The passion fruit is round and either purple or yellow in colour (when ripe, it becomes yellow). Its flesh is firm and juicy, filled with black seeds and transparent gel. The passion fruit belongs to the family of berries. The seeds have a sweet taste, but the membrane that separates the seeds from the peel is very tart. Therefore, passion fruit is rarely eaten row and more commonly squeezed for its juice. When eating it row, many people choose to add some sugar on the membrane to eliminate the tart taste.

Passion fruit is a very good source of vitamin C, Vitamin A, fiber, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin B2, potassium, copper and alpha-carotene.  Therefore, it is good for boosting immunity, lowering blood pressure, fighting stomach distress, improving hearth health, improving circulation, improving vision, improving bone mineral density, loosing weight, improving cognitive function, skin care and hair care, helping to induce sleep, improving digestion.

To prepare a passion fruit juice at home you do not need a lot of effort. All you need is the passion fruit, some sugar, water and the blender.


Ingredients: six pieces of ripe passion fruit, sugar and water

  • Cut each passion fruit in half and scoop out its flesh into a blender.
  • Add sugar (1 teaspoon recommended)
  • Add some water (1/2 cup recommended)
  • Gently blend for one minute approximately to get the seeds separated but not open.
  • Strain this blend by either pouring it through a filter or sieving to remove seeds.  
  • Add more water (6 cups recommended or as per your taste).
  • Stir well and add more sugar if needed.
  • Refrigerate and serve chilled!
